Smartchem Technologies Ltd. (STL) is a wholly owned subsidiary company of a major Indian Industrial giant named Deepak Fertilisers and Petrochemical Corporation Ltd. (DFPCL)
 
The Plant was initially setup by VBC Group in 1991 with a capacity of 80 MT/day of Nitric Acid (100% basis) and 80 MT/day of Ammonium Nitrate at Ponnada Village, Etcherla Mandal in Srikakulam District location, this plant was taken over by DFPCL, the sole leader in AN market in India in the year 2000.
 
DFPCL has initially named the company as Arlem Investments & Finance Ltd, and later rechristened it as Smartchem Technologies Ltd. The plants were retrofitted in 2001 for a production of 100 MT/day of Nitric Acid (100% basis) and 120 MT/day of Ammonium Nitrate.
