Introduction : 

Model Tpm Counter Has Been Designed Specially to Meet the Growing Demand of the Textile Industry for an Accurate Instrument to Measure the Twist (Tpm or Tpi) in the Twisted Yarn. Model Tpm Counter is a Motor-Driven Semiautomatic Instrument Which Gives Digital Displays of Twist by Untwist Method.
Front Panel Controls :

• S/z Switch for Selection of Type of Twist of Yarn.

• Normal / Reverse Switch for Selection of Normal Untwist or Reverse Operation in Which Twist Imparted in Other Directions Are Removed.

• Adj Knob for Adjustment Orf Motor Speed in Adj Position of Switch.

Identification of Other Parts :
The instrument consists of the following parts, which are required to be used during the operation.

• YARN CLAMPS-There are tow Nos. of clamps fixed at the two ends of the instrument. One clamp is fixed on moving crosshead and the other is fixed on the motor shaft. The yarn under test is held between these two yarn clamps.

• MEASURING SCALE-This scale is fixed on the top of the left side panel of the instrument. The scale is used to ensure 250 mm or 10-inch test length of yarn between the clamps. The scale also shows the extension in the yarn during untwisting under the tensioning weight.

• YARN TENSIONING WEIGHT- The weight is provided with a hook for attachment to the moving crosshead for putting yarn under test in tension.

Operating Procedure :
Clamp the yarn in the clamp fixed on the motor shaft. A guide is provided on the clamp for easy clamping. Pull the other end of yarn through the clamp on the moving crosshead had while clamping ensures that yarn is clamped for proper test length and the yarn is free and under correct tension of weight. This is necessary to have uniform length of yarn between the clams under fixed tension to get proper repeatability of the results. Select S/Z switch in S or Z position depending upon type of yarn. Put the main switch ON and press the ‘RESET’ push button to ensure zero reading on the digital display unit. Select the motor speed to a high-speed position. Select ‘NORMAL’ position for initial operation. Start the motor using the ‘START / STOP’ switch. The motor will now start untwisting the yarn and DIGITAL DISPLAY will start counting. After reaching approx. 90% of expected TPM reading, it is recommended to lower the motor speed to the minimum possible to get better results. By using ‘ADJ knob’ the motor can be run in very slow to moderately slow speed, or if the motor stops completely test can be run manually by pushing motor shaft by hand.At this stage insert a pin in the untwisted yarn and start moving the pin from crosshead end to motor end and go on opening the yarn by running the motor at slow speed. When is fully untwisted, stop the motor and note the reading. This reading indicates directly ‘TPM’ without using any multiplying factor. For TPI (Grip length 10 inches) counter reading is to be divided by 40. In case the test is overrun after fully untwisting the yarn and twist in the opposite direction had taken place, then stop the motor. Put the machine in ‘REVERSE’ operation. ‘REVERSE’ operation changes the direction of rotation and also counting is done downward. Now start the motor till full untwisted position is obtained. The reading on the digital display will automatically come down and show the correct TPM. The extension of scale provided gives an idea of the elongation of yarn because of untwisting.
