Introduction:
Writer's cramp is a task specific focal dystania of the hands (steadiness tester). Writer's Cramp typically affects the person's dominant side, meaning the writing hand. It is often characterized by an abnormally pronounced, forced grip on the writing instrument. This may occur immediately upon. Grasping the pen or pencil or shortly after beginning to write. Less commonly these may be excessive extension of the fingers that causes the writing instrument to drop from the hand. Additional finding may involve certain muscles of the end shoulder, writing may be laborers and shaky with discomfort or pain in the forearm. Some people are not able to write even after just a few words.
Symptoms usually appear when a person is lying to do a task that requires fine motor movement. The symptoms may appear during a particular type of movement such as writing or playing a piano, but the dystonia may spread to affect many tasks.
This is a physical method to help the patient write in cramp included learning to hold the pencil with the help of a special numeric board. In this method the subject is asked to hold a metal tipped stylus and move through the grooves, which are in shape of (alphabets/numeric) letters without touching the sides. The indicator (led/beep) gives the signal every time the stylus touches the copper plate. Reduction in number of errors for successive trial is useful demonstration of learning.
